Jagriti Yatra is a train journey of discovery and transformation that takes hundreds of India’s highly motivated youth, from all over the country and from the world. Jagriti yatra is a 15 days long national journey in which youth travels around 8000 km across the country to build small villages and towns. This journey also aims to meet the role models – social and business entrepreneurs – of the country. The vision of Jagriti Yatra is ‘building India through enterprise’. In this yatra, All  the comfort of your homes are available within the moving train across India.

Impact of Jagriti Yatra

Jagriti Yatra is related to change-makers, leaders, problem-solvers, and innovators. It focuses on the themes of Agriculture, Health, Technology, Handicrafts and Apparel, Women Empowerment and Urbanization, and interlinking entrepreneurship with nation-building. Jagriti yatra is organized by a non-profit charitable organization called Jagriti Sewa Sansthan whose headquarters is located in Mumbai. which is Based in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, that  focuses on skill development.

The idea of Jagriti yatra is to build India through enterprise. It aims to inspire youths living in the midst of the Indian demographic diamond to lead development by talking to enterprises.

Three Horizons Approach

Jagriti Yatra has been running successfully for the last few years and is now focusing on building Jagriti Enterprise Network that will serve as an ecosystem to support the young entrepreneurs from Middle India. Jagriti Enterprise Institute is a long-term plan that aims to be a physical incubation center for Middle India enterprises.

Yatra Selection Procedure

The Jagriti yatra selection process is done through a process to select the brightest talent from various parts of the country. The participants who are 20 years of age can take part in this national yatra idea and are capable of bringing change in the country.

Criteria

To select an eligible candidate for the jagriti yatra, the selection committee does not organize an exam or test and also does not rely on exam results. It focuses mainly on the abilities, motivations and values and eligibility of the candidate.

The organization understands the candidate’s understanding of the nation’s pressing problems and the commitment to approach them for solving problems.

Diversity in Selection

The organization focuses on applicants from the Middle and an even geographical spread within India. Moreover, it looks for equal representation for male-female candidates. Both male and female are having equal opportunities for participating in the yatra. Jagriti Yatra consists of upto 40 exceptional international candidates whose global exposure contributes to the enhancement of the Yatra.

The Yatra Composition

Yatris selected for the Yatra can either be a participant or a facilitator.

Participant: The participants for jagriti yatra are young candidates and must be between 20 to 27 years of age and are determined to ‘be the change they want to see’ and have the potential to become entrepreneurs and change-makers.

Facilitator: Facilitators should be experienced professionals, who must be above 27 years of age and are looking forward to join the movement for Enterprise-led development. They may be both entrepreneurs and professionals.

A facilitator serves as a mentor and a coordinator or a guide during the jagriti Yatra and is assigned a unit of six participants. They are obliged to

  • Support the participants to make the most of the Yatra by managing individual and collaborative learning.
  • Facilitators have to manage the unit throughout the journey as per the Yatra Mantra (Code of Conduct).
  • Facilitators have to Bridge the gap between the participants and the organizing team.
  • The facilitators are required to be fluent in either English or Hindi.

Selection process

Candidates who are interested in participating in the jagriti yatra can apply online by filling the main application form online or by filling the application form offline and sending it through post. The application form contains a series of essay-type questions that are specially designed to ensure the capability of candidates for the yatra. It tests the entrepreneurial potential of a candidate by a selection panel of more than 30 experts. Interviews and reference checks are also conducted to ensure the accuracy of the candidature.

Facilitators’ applications are further assessed in terms of their professional experience and the ability to communicate, coordinate and manage youth. This is done through additional information in the form and an informal telephonic interview.
