Sea Beach of Puri

Puri is located at the coastline of Bay of Bengal in Odisha, India. The city is covered by the Bay of Bengal and golden beaches.  Sea beach of Puri or commonly known as the Golden Beach is located in Odisha’s Puri. It is located at the bank of Bay of Bengal.

Jagannath Puri Sea beach is also known for the spirituality and also as a sacred Hindu tourist spot. Also known as “Mahodadhi” or “The Great Sea,” Puri Sea beach is one of India’s most beautiful and serene beaches. The sea beach is stretched more than 150 km of the Bay of Bengal. Sea Beach of Puri attracts thousands of travelers every year with its golden sands, azure waters, and a palpable aura of serenity.

Beside the natural beauty Puri Sea beach also has lots of spiritual significance which also attracts so many people every year. Because of the golden color sands the beach is also known as the golden beach of Puri.

The view of the beach and the sound of the waves make the beach one of the beautiful and pleasant and peaceful destination for travel. It is said that there are five sacred or holy places in Puri, among which Puri Sea Beach is the one. It is the most holistic place of Puri.

It is often said that whoever come to visit Puri and take a dip in the sea they are considered to be the purified and can pay their homage to the Lord Jagannath. The beach also a place to display art works, sand works, sand sculptures.

Recently a person named Padma shri Sudarshan Pattnaik got international award for his beautiful art works made with sands. The beach is also a place for festival. World famous Puri beach festival held every year in the sea beach.

Also, Foundation for Environment Education (FEE), Denmark awarded the beach with a tag of “Blue Flag” in 11^th October of 2020. Which means the beach is now certified for safety, security, accessibility and fresh environment. 

There are so many beaches are located at the Puri. Among them Swargadar Sea Beach, Golden Beach, Chandrabhaga Beach, Puri Beach, Balighai Beach, Ramchandi Beach and Mohona are famous.

Other beaches are Niladri beach, Sea mouth Beach, Baliharachandi Beach, Baleswar beach all are located at Puri. All the beaches are connected with each other also.

Famous Sea Beach of Puri

Swargadwar Beach

It is the most beautiful and cleanest beach of the Puri. Also this is the most crowded beach of Puri. Every time of the year the beach is packed with tourist. You can consider this as the best beach in Puri, Also there are lots of accommodation options available near the sea beach. The beach is a mixture of calmness and beauty of nature which surrounding the beach.

It is said that in this beach Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a great devotee of Lord Vishnu had walked in the sea to die and to reach heaven. And it is believed that if people take bath at that place of the sea, they can achieve heaven. So the place is also known as “Swargadwar” or the “door of heaven”. People take a dip here to enter the temple. And also considered the beach as a Mhanadi.  

There are so many shops are located in the beach. From local food stalls, to handmade products, seashell jewelry, pear jewelry, all are available in these shops. Which makes the beach another famous shopping place of Puri.

This beach is located at a distance of 2 km from Jagannath Temple. It is the nearest beach of the temple. From the beach auto, taxi, cars are available to the temple. Also the beach is become most crowded in the morning for taking bath. Located in front of the Swargadwar Crematorium, the beach is the most famous Puri Beach.

The beach is located at a distance of 4 km from the central Puri. The beach can be reached by auto, rickshaw, cars and buses.

Golden Beach

Golden beach is a combination of beauty and golden sands. It is one of the best Sea beach of Puri. The beach is well connected with other beaches. In 2020, the beach got Blue Flag certification. The cleanliness and the safe environment make the beach one of the safest beaches of the Puri.

The beach is stretched over 870 meters. And the beach is located in between Niladri Beach and Swargadwar beach. The beach is one of the top Puri Beach

The splashing of waves and the picturesque landscape make a unforgettable memory for people. The name Golden Beach came from its golden sand. In the sunrise the sand looks like golden glitters. With its golden sands and wave of Bay of Bengal make the beach most beautiful one. The beach is known for its calmness and peaceful environment with crystal clear water. Sitting there and watching sunrise and sunset is one of the beautiful experiences.

The beach is located at the 20 km distance from the Konarak. Auto, taxi, cars are available to reach the beach. 

Chandrabhaga Beach

It is one of the best beaches of east coastline, which is located near the Konarak Sun Temple. The beach is located at the Chandrabhaga village of Puri district. It is one of the popular and largest beaches of Puri.

The name came from the River Chandrabhaga, and also known as Konarak Beach, as it is located near the city Konarak. Chandrabhaga river passing by the Konarak Sun temple in Konarak. And it mix with Bay of Bengal at Chandrabhaga Beach.

The beach is located at a distance of 3 Km from the Konarak Sun Temple. The beach is known for its view of sunrise and sunsets, and also for the water sports and its cleanness. 

The beach is also one of the beautiful and safest beach of Odisha. Because of is clean environment, and safe surrounding and crystal clear water, the beach got certified with Blue Flag by the Foundation of Environmental Education to meet the criteria. This is the first beach to receive Blue Flag Certification in Puri.

The beach is surrounding by the tall lines of trees and golden sands. The beach has so many cultural and historical significance.

There are so many festivals which are organized at the beach. Every year Govt of Odisha organized Chandrabhaga Mela to pay homage to Lord Surya. Which is seven days long fair. The festival also attracts so many devotees to the beach every year.

The beach is also famous for picture perfect landscapes and views. People can spend their evening and morning to watch sunrise and sunsets.

Also, the beach is ideal for water activities like swimming, bathing surfing, boating and fishing. Located at the a distance of 30 km from central Puri, the beach can be reached by auto, cars, buses.

Balighai Beach

Balighai Beach is located at a distance of 8 km from Puri and stretched up to Konark marine drive. This beach is still less undiscovered. The beach is the meet point of Nuanai River and Bay of Bengal. The beach is located at the mouth of the river.

The beach is comparatively cleaner and also less crowded than other beaches. Alaska, Casuarinas, and Eucalyptus other trees surrounded the beach.

The beach offers a beautiful picturesque landscape and a scenic view of sunrise and sunsets. Waves of water crashing over the rocks add extra beauty to the beach.

There are so many resorts, hotels are located near the beach. Also, the beach offers various water activities like swimming, boating, volleyball etc. Also, the beach is famous for fishing.

The Sea Turtle Research Centre, where enormous turtles flutter around in their tanks, is located right next to the beach, also there is the Balihirana Sanctuary, which houses the protected and endangered Balihirana antelopes. Both of these locations are excellent choices for animal lovers and photographers. At a distance of 17 km from central puri the beach is located.

Puri Beach

Puri Beach or Chakratirtha beach located at the coastline of Puri. It is very calm and beautiful beach of Puri. The view of sunrise and sunset is another attraction of tourist in the beach. The beach offers swimming, bath, boating, angling other water activities.

The beach is also surrounded by various spiritual temples. People also come to visit the temple and take a dip in the Sea beach of Puri.

The beach is also famous for cultural significance. Every year in the month of November “Puri beach festival” is organized by Govt of Odisha here.

Which is a festival of cultural programmes along with beautiful artworks, handcraft exhibition, handloom and sand art, musical programmes, and fashion shows. Also sports like volleyball, kabaddi, are played here.

Located at a distance of 35km from Sun temple, the beach is also known for its sand sculptures made by local artists.

Baliharachandi Beach

The beach is less crowded and quieter than other beaches of Puri. There are comparatively less food stalls, less shops and hotels are located. The place is also famous of fishing. Little crabs, seashell all are roaming in the beach. Which add up some beauty to the beach. The beach located in between Puri and Konarak.

When every year, Puri beach festival is organized, that time the beach becomes the most attractive one. And the beach is located at a distance of 10 km from the central Puri.

Astaranga Beach

The beach is one the most beautiful beaches of Odisha. The beach is known for its natural beauty at the time of sunset. The name Astaranga came from “Asta” or eight “Ranga” or colors of the sky after sunset. The beach is famous for fishing.

And every day in the morning fish markets are put up near the beach, where various of fishes are available. The beach is located at a distance of 60 Km from the city Puri and 34km from Konarak. At a distance of 67 km from central Puri, the beach can be reached by auto, taxi, cars through the road Puri- Konarak Marine drive or via Konarak Kotakpur road.

Ramachandi Beach

The beach is situated in between Konarak and Puri. And name Ramchandi came from the Ramchandi Temple. The beach is famous for various water activities like swimming, scuba diving, jet skiing and water skiing.

How to reach Puri

Puri is located in Odisha, India. Puri can be reached by flight, train and by road.

By Air: At a distance of 60 km Biju Patnaik International airport is located at Bhubaneswar. From the airport buses, auto, taxi, and private cars are available to the Puri.

By Train: At a distance of 6 km from the Puri Sea beach, Puri Railway station is located. From the station auto, taxis and cars are available to the sea beach.

By Road: Puri bus stand is located near the sea beach. There are various bus services like ORSTC, local buses and intercity buses are available.
