History of Ekamra Utsav

According to the mythology, There is an interesting story behind the celebration of Ekamra Utsav. It is said that Once, Lord Siva was searching for a better place, where he could meditate. Narada advised him to meditate in the Ekamra Kanan (forest) of India which is located in Bhubaneswar and Lord Shiva went to Ekamra kanan forest and began meditating.

It is believed that in that place Lord Shiva got settled as Lord Lingaraj, along with Goddess Parvati. No, Lingaraja Temple is situated at that place and that forest was called Ekamra Kanan (forest). That’s why Ekamra Utsav is celebrated every year on Janata Maidan of Bhubaneswar.
