History of Rajarani Music Festival
Rajarani temple was built in 11th century by King Indraratha. The temple is renowned for the architecture and sculptures. The carving of couples, females with various musical instruments make the temple beautiful. To hold the heritage of the temple Rajarani Music festival is organized every year to celebrates the musics and cultures.
In the late 1980’s the festival was initiated by govt of Odisha Tourism to promote classical and Indian Music and to promote travel and tourism. The music festival is relatively newly organized festival which gain attention in very few times.
In 2002 or 2003, the festival was first organized by Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy to promote travel and tourism. And then Bhubaneswar Music Circle organized the festival from 2006 to 2011. And after that, Odisha tourism and Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy jointly organized the festival in the backdrop of the Rajarani Temple.
